About

'Upon a Painted Ocean' is the debut album from UK based songwriter Rob Johnson.

The album is a deluxe soundscape comprising of 14 tracks that create the soundtrack to a film within your imagination. It is an epic and atmospheric work in which the differing songs become characters that come and go as they please - resulting in the recurrence of themes when you least expect them. Meanwhile the record has a tone that attempts to install certain feelings to the listener - all within the universally accepted principles of a 3 minute pop song (albeit without the benefit of words).

It is certainly an ambitious piece, a brief glance at a few choice song titles; "Point the Gun and Pull the Trigger," "Monster Eats the Pilot," "...End Credits," serve to illustrate this. Whether it works will be down to the individual experience of the listener, but each and every person who listens to the album will be presented with a musical, elaborate and potentially inspiring experience that attempts to recapture the magic and possibility of the instrumental album.

Rob has played guitar in numerous bands over the years (most notably Forward Is The Farewell - who once upon a time supported acts such as Hellogoodbye). Influenced by a wide array of artists 'Upon a Painted Ocean' is his attempt to do something completely and totally different to hopefully establish himself in the industry and carry on making records for a very long time.

After over a year of recording at The Ranch Production House in Southampton with Producer Geoff Swan, the result is a monumental effort that demands repeated listens. Mastered by Jon Astley (Led Zeppelin, The Who, Abba) and featuring guest vocals from Max Bemis of Say Anything the album has already been touted as "a modern tubular bells." (Overplay.com)
