About

R.I.C.O. G is a Hip Hop Artist born and raised in Oakland, CA. The college graduate decided to reside in New York after college in order to pursue Hip Hop in its birthplace. Rico’s music is inspired by artists such as Common, Kanye West, the entire Good Music, Jay Z, Lupe Fiasco, Andre 3,000, Tupac, Notorious B.I.G. , Robin Thicke, Pharrell, T.I. , Erykah Badu, and Lauren Hill, as well as new comers J. Cole, and Kendrick Lamar. He still admits to being open minded and enjoying all artists and all genres. Rico recalls writing poetry as early as the fourth grade, and he recorded his first track at the age of thirteen with his older brother. However, athletic potential led him toward courts and fields rather than toward studios and stages. His lifetime as an athlete and a fan of sports makes up a significant portion of his lyrical content.

Blessed with two Parents and a stable home, Rico never experienced much struggle. Though he lived what all of his peers would consider a good life, he paid close attention to the perilous streets of Oakland, CA. Rico will be the first to tell you that he is not a murderer, he never sold crack, and he has never been a pimp. Still, he has developed a unique second hand perspective of the crime filled and financially deprived neighborhoods of Oakland CA, which he shares with his audience through his music.

The death of his father in 2009, and the end of his football career, opened the door for what Rico would soon find to be his true passion: Hip Hop. As his senior year of college came and went, the December 2011 graduate made the tough decision to remove himself from the full time work world indefinitely and pursue a career many people told him is unattainable. Feedback from his listeners continues to disprove doubters, and be the driving force behind his relentless pursuit of success.

Rico is always working on at least a few projects with producers worldwide from America to France to Brazil to name a few. His first Mix tape, released on December 7, 2012, his late father’s birthday, is titled ‘No Talking in the Previews available here: http://www.hotnewhiphop.com/mixtape.69925.html PLEASE DOWNLOAD AND SUPPORT THE FIRST PROJECT AND his own brand of music which he refers to as ThinkMusic.

“I have complex thoughts, and my music is a collection of my thoughts. It’s not always simple to understand, and if you are one of the billion or so people in the world who don’t like to think, you may or may not like it, but if you are someone who doesn’t mind thinking a little bit, I guarantee you will appreciate ThinkMusic.”
