Style with substance….
Rick Cee was only twelve years old when his love of House music began. Citing DJs such as Jeremy Healy, Graeme Park and being from Manchester, infamous clubs like the Hacienda are some of his earliest and biggest influences, he well and truly caught the house music bug at an unconventionally early age.
He bought his first set of decks back in 1994 for just £35 – one Sony and one Technics, using a wheel to change the pitch, complete with a mixer originally from Tandy (inclusive of echo button!). By the time he was 16, he was playing the main room at Fluid in Manchester and it wasn’t before long that he found himself DJing at numerous ‘legal’ parties.
Over the next 14 years, Rick Cee’s life quickly changed to a nocturnal existence spanning the Globe and playing with some of the biggest names in House and Techno. He was soon playing clubs such as Garlands in Liverpool, Sankey’s in Manchester, Pacha in London and alongside names like Jonathan Ulysses, The AudioWhores, Mistress Da Funk, Jo Mills, Ralph Lawson, Copyright and Sneaky Soundsystem. Then, from the summer of 2002, his reputation crossed the continent when he was asked to play at Café Mambo, Kanya, The Orange Corner, Plastik and Eden in Ibiza, Fiesta En La Playa in Tulum, Mexico and most recently, Hikka Fest in Sri Lanka, where his energetic sound was just right for the festival crowd!
With sets combining soulful, funky, deep, jacking and tech house and plenty of technical individuality, he always manages to get (and keep) the crowd going! He uses Traktor synced with Ableton live using an X1 controller with his Pioneer EFX, although he’s no stranger to using CDJ’s and vinyl when playing classics. Before the digital age kicked off, 3 deck vinyl mixing was his thing!
Having now relocated to London, Rick has hooked up with good friend and fellow DJ / Producer Armack. Both have been involved at the top end of the house music scene for over a decade; DJing and promoting at some of the biggest clubs in the UK, Ibiza and throughout the world. Together they realised their vision in 2012 with the creation of #CutTheMustard (CTM) Recordings – “London’s independently Global” house music label.
CTM’s ethos is to be a local independent label, founded and based in London, but with a truly Global presence. CTM is signing a diverse range of artists throughout the world, who share a common love of underground house music and a common talent of producing tracks that truly cut it. CTM Recordings is also a frequent host of exclusive label parties, where you can expect some of the finest deep, soulful and uplifting tech house, including exclusive previews of upcoming CTM releases.
Rick is kept busy DJing with a regular booking at Ministry of Sound for DT Deleted and a weekly radio show on S Dance Live. When he is not DJing, he spends his time in the studio producing and editing tracks to make his next set individual. His latest track, B-Deeper, is set to be released in August 2013 and has already had great feedback on Soundcloud.
Rick is currently sponsored by yourownclothing (www.yourownclothing.com), as well as Aircoustic, an established European headphone brand, who he will be working closely with in 2013 to develop a new range of DJ headphones.
