From a young age Richie Barthez has always immersed himself in quality music. Surrounding himself with the genres of House, Soul, Funk, Disco, Jazz Funk & Hip Hop, his influences have a rich and diverse pedigree between them. Those with a trained ear will pick up on these when experiencing one of his sets today.
Learning his trade in the mid 90’s, Richie started out like many other successful DJ’s before him – in his bedroom on a pair of turntables. During an extremely competitive time and era of the ‘Super DJ’, Richie’s hard teenage work and self promotion through mixtapes lead to a weekly residency at the Medicine Bar in Birmingham. This turned out to be his breakthrough, and in turn lead to regular appearances and residencies over the next few years at the The Que Club, Birmingham Arts Festival, BPM Radio, Wobble, Red Worcester, RSVP Worcester and Bonds.
2003 saw Richie take his skills beyond Birmingham and the UK, with regular appearances in Worcester, Coventry, Birmingham, Nottingham and Spain.
With a proven background behind him, Richie’s diary has snowballed since 2009. After playing numerous House nights in and around Birmingham, he is now resident for the hugely successful monthly night Uber & Days Like This ‘Together’ in central Birmingham, twice monthly resident at the ‘Hole In The Wall’ (Bar Room Bar) in Stratford Upon Avon, and has once again played at the annual ‘Vocal Booth Weekender’ on the South Coast of Spain – an event that’s grown tenfold year on year.
With regular appearances also at the ‘Beat Players’ night in London, plus some global opportunities on the cards for 2012, Richie’s schedule is only set to get a lot more hectic...
