On April 22, 1999 the presentation of compilation by St. Petersburg drum&bass producers called RESPECT took place in the underground GRIBOEDOV club. It was the 1st such compilation in the history of Russian capital of culture. It was compiled and released on MC by dj GVOZD. This compiling has caused the enourmous interest and positive responses of judges a stiletto. That was the first like experience of Petersburg, which effect became the observable development of producing d&b scene.
After that drum&bass association RESPECT also appeared. Its members became St. Petersburg drum&bass djs and producers: GVOZD, T. HALF, 3'0'3 Project, G.O.O.A.S.H., the 1st russian female d&b dj and producer ZEMINE, R.E.S.T.Art, SPBass Team, Mekanic Duo, ART, E:BEAT. Respect Family crew is incredible active in different fields of drum&bass music and culture. They promote events, release and distribute music worldwide, unite people, collaborate with d&b artists, labels and agencies all over the world. And they are respected by audience and colleagues.
The head of the crew dj GVOZD has the only in St. Petersburg FM drum&bass radio show called PIRATE STATION on Radio Record. RESPECT records released over 40 drum&bass releases on MC, CD, vinyl and digital format. RESPECT Family was called the Best Promo Group on 'Russian D&B Awards' by Drumandbass.ru in 2003 and 2004, the Best Label on 2006, 2007. And dj GVOZD got the Best Dj in 2003, 2006 and 2007, the Best Radioshow 2003, 2004 and 2006, the Best Mix CD and Outstanding Contribution to D&B in Russia in 2006, 2007.
From 2001 RESPECT Family annualy conduct 'Russian Drum&Bass Convention'. More than 100 d&b djs, producers and promoters from Russia and ex-USSR countries became the participants of this festival. This event is very important for russian club culture. Since 2003 RESPECT Family regularly conducts serie of Sunday nights LISTEN UP! at Griboedov club, dedicated to soulful, atmospheric, liquid funk, drumfunk and other new, deep and positive vibes of drum&bass music. Resident djs of this parties are GVOZD, ZEMINE, DISSIDENT, BLASTA, RETROSPECTION.
In 2007 RESPECT Records created sublabel OPPOSIDE Records. Its purpose is to release and support producers who deal with experimental/breakbeat orientated style. In June 2009 OPPOSIDE Records have presented the first vinyl release. 12 inch plate contains compositions of St.-Petersburg producers Dissident and Cyberworm, TKB, Asymmetric. The 1st RESPECT vinyl came out in Autumn 2009.
RESPECT Family organized in Russia gigs of such world music stars as Gush Collective, Black Sun Empire, Seba, Paradox, Pyro, Physics, Resound, Nookie, Barbara Shroombab, Future Prophecies, Storm, Breakage, Klute, Bailey, Nu:Tone, Goldie, Technical Itch, Aphrodite, Corrupt Souls, Stamina MC, Alley Cat, Future Engineers, MC System, Makoto, MC Deeizm, Alix Perez, Lynx, Icicle, Mark Od, Kemo, John Doe and others.
