It sounds nicer than faking it with stereo effects. In this example, Avenson STO-2 (omni mics) --&rt; RME Fireface 400 --&rt; Ableton Live --&rt; iZotope Ozone (for slight limiting only! No effects, compressors or EQs!)
A friend sold me on stereo pairs when he lent me his Rode NT5 pair. I knew right away I had to get my own stereo pair of mics, when I heard how easy it was to get good-sounding recordings without having to muck around with so many effects. I settled with an omnidirectional Avenson STO-2 pair-- No proximity effect, which means mic everything up close. Nowadays, I often throw an EQ & compressor on a recording and move right along.

Very excellent advice. I've seen one other vid of yours and will be looking out for more of your music and instruction. Thanks!

Electric guitar unplugged & mic'ed. Sorry, I didn't have an acoustic around, heh

Same tambourine through an Avenson STO-2 single, then stereo pair. Better treble.

Tambourine... through a cheap china mic (Samson CL8, LDC) for reference. It's all warm and crunchy.
