    Label Background

The Smugglers Inn is an independent radio show/podcast which is produced and presented by Daniel Berman aka Red Rack'em/Hot Coins every second Wednesday. The show began life in 2007 on the newly formed web radio station http://www.myhouseyourhouse.net and soon developed a loyal, musically informed audience due to the diversity and increasingly upfront nature of the musical selections. As the profile of the show grew over time, it began to pick up some celebrity fans including The Boiler Room, Secret Sundaze, Word and Sound and syndication to several more stations including http://ntslive.co.uk/ and http://www.sweatlodgeradio.com/ quickly followed. The popular podcast is hosted on Daniels website http://www.redrackem.com and Itunes.

The Smugglers Inn has become a unique testing ground for new artists and productions and many of todays highly rated 'new school' producers benefited from early support on the show as well as behind the scenes a+r advice from Daniel when approached by record labels after being featured on the show.

With a network of talent to draw from, it seemed a logical step to start a record label so this is the first release from what promises to be an interesting series of eclectic, dancefloor focussed musical endeavours from an all-star international cast.

    Smugglers Inn Voyage 1

    A1 - Carlos Nilmnns - N'oublions Pas

Smugglers Inn Voyage 1 opens with an old school tinged feel good gem from talented Glaswegian producer Carlos Nilmmns aka Ross Mcmillan/Solab. Ross has been on top of his game for years and he's recently risen to prominence with well received excursions on 4lux and Skylax. He's currently collaborating with Detroit legend Nico Marks and N'oublions Pas is a fitting entrance into the Smugglers Inn sound. An earthy breakbeat is layered with increasingly halcyon acidic squiggles and emotional strings before a truly emotional breakdown envelops the dancefloor in a warm empathic embrace. If there's a festival track on this record, this is it.

    A2 - Tommy Rawson - Shy Track

Tommy Rawson is the pseudonym of one half of a crazy fresh UK based production team whose carnival bass tinged big room house outings have been supported by the likes of Gilles Peterson, Benji B, Jazzanova and of course Red Rack'em. As one half of the crew has gone off on a round the world hiatus, Tommy has been hard at work in the studio producing soulful, tropical tinged house with a bump and Shy Track is no exception. It's a feel good, bouncing house groove with serious bass built around a sweet vocal refrain. If being shy turns out music like this, then most producers should stay in a bit more often on a few more friday nights.

B1 - Franklin De Costa - Acid Test Bass

With a discography stretching back to 2001, Frankfurt born and Berlin based Producer/DJ Franklin De Costa has a production pedigree and sound to die for. His increasing use of hardware and unique dubby sound has found favour on labels like Mule and Greta Cottage and his solid, highly skilled DJ sets have taken him all over the world. As a long time fan of Franklins sound, Daniels move to Berlin presented a unique opportunity to gain early access to Franklins tracks and Acid Test Bass has been cherry picked out of a trio of acid tinged tracks Franklin produced earlier this year. It's a raw, scorched yet funky shuffling banger which has been heavily roadtested by Berman in his recent DJ sets.

    B2 - Ajukaja - Siim Ja Part

The last track on this maiden voyage is perhaps the most psychedelic one and comes from Estonian musical legend Raul Saaramets aka Ajukaja. Raul has been around cutting edge dance music in Estonia for decades. His cult radio show 'Vibratsioon' has been pivotal in breaking new genres and artists on Estonian national radio for many years and his 'Mutant Disco' clubnight (which he co-runs with UK dance legend Rhythm Dr) has been inviting the likes of Actress, Moodymann and Altered Natives to Tallinn since 1997. Siim Ja Part is a beautiful, floaty yet tough house cut which effortlessly blends the progressive rock vibes of King Crimson with the raw beat aesthetic that marks Rauls music out in a sea of bland imitators.
