Toots 90 Remix Competition Red Bull Elektropedia, Toots Music, The Academy by Borgerhoff & Lamberigts and A&Gallery asked Belgian producers to create a remix for Toots Thielemans' classic Bluesette. These are the eight finalists.

Red Bull Elektropedia, Toots Music, The Academy by Borgerhoff & Lamberigts and A&Gallery asked Belgian producers to create a remix for Toots Thielemans' classic Bluesette. The prize? A trip to the Toots Tribute Concert at Lincoln Center in New York (at the end of September 2012).

@In-flowence luckily enough, things nowadays don't go only in the elektro style direction. I have nothing to say about this track, I'm not judging it nor these guys' skills. Simply it has nothing to do with Toots Thielemans nor with Bluesette. This contest (whom I just heard about today) could have been an occasion to show love to a great musician, unfortunately it went through a totally different direction. Useless.

As Belgian and as fan of Tootsie I'm surprised of the result of this remix.
Idea was to make a remix of the song "Bluesette" ... but "where is Bluesette ?"
The concept of the old and new is a perfect idea, however there is too much "new" and too less "Toots" - In-flowence

@Alessio Arcangeli: Personally I think your opinion is ok, but your 'one word' is insulting, and therefor disgusting. big fan or not. the lads did it: this is just the way things go nowadays (bonker 'elektro' style). they really got the picture. btw: you saying that the jury of this competition are bunch of emptyheads. don't understand your frustration, but hey, you can have an opinion. just like me

I am really sorry, but as a remixer and big fan of Mr. Thielemans (I started playing chromatic harmonica listening to his music) I have only one word for this: DISGUSTING. In my opinion, remixes should always tribute the original song and its author. This is rather insulting.

To get you into the mood, we already got a draft of a storyline for this song.
Footsteps...
Toots is walking towards his favorite brown café, in the Marollen (Brussels).
As he's about to go inside he sees a kid, sitting there on the porch, playing a tune on his guitar.
Toots goes into the café, bluesette is playing on the background. He sits down on a wooden chair & starts dreaming about his past. All of the sudden the needle starts skipping.
Toots, forced to come back from his dreamy state of mind, decides to get up and push the needle forward on the record player.
Once there, he starts to get amused by the sound & signals the piano player to follow his lead.
Then the young boy with a guitar comes inside and starts joining in, and that's the birth of the Toots Bluesette 2012 version...
This is just a small snippet of what we have planned for the video clip. (For now, let your imagination fill in the rest of the story)
