The band Rebelites is formed at the beginning of 2011 as a project of two fiends and collegues – Cvetan Chobanoff ( piano ) and Aleksander Georgiev ( guitar ) , who are also two of the founders of the first Bulgarian reggae band - Root Souljah . In the effort to continue their search for new musical concepts they create the band Rebelites . Gradually they are joined by other friends and collegues , with whom they worked through the years in different formations and projects - Alexander Daniel ( drums ) , Dimitar Bakardjiev ( saxophone ) , Petar Shterev ( trombone ) , Radoslav Zlatarev ( bass guitar ) . The two vocals – Mihail Lyulev and Bisrat Mojo (who is from Ethiopia) have a very big contribution to the original sound of the band .
Musically at first the band relies on a mix of traditional roots reggae sound and dub improvisations . After the accession of Bisrat Mojo a strong afrobeat element is added . In the following years the band experiments with the incorporation of other musical genres . In some of the tracks there is funk and jazz influence . Others like the song “Slow Fire” - a project of Rebelites and one of the most successful Bulgarian female singers Ruth Koleva , is true soul . In 2012 the band performs on one of the best music festivals in Bulgaria – “Elavation Music Festival “ along with artist like Erykah Badu, FATBOY SLIM, KOSHEEN, Nneka, Cypress Hill, Sean Paul and others. 2013 is а turning point for the band – after a long absence from the musical scene , at the end of autumn Rebelites return with a clarified and absolutely new musical concept .
Despite their short collaboration the eight musicians have big experience on international scenes , with tours in Romania, Slovakia, Greece, Macedonia, Germany, Ausria, and Chech Republic . They have played alongside artists like Mad Professor, Ras Zacharri, King Ali Baba, Percy Dread, Webcam Hi-Fi, Beloslava, Ruth Koleva and others .
