nice breakdown mate very classic sounding
-
@zander: thanks man :) - the strings are done using the wonderful SQ8L vst which is an emulation of the Ensoniq SQ80 which John Carpenter used a lot apparently - its a great sounding plugin IMO, however for some reason it cant be automated, although I think you can using MIDI mapping or something. The 'clean' bassline is Novation BassStation VST.

Back to harder stuff - big 909 kicks with a lot of acid and some breakbeats. I have updated the audio stream to a newer version of the track which has less 'makeup' compression as I thought it was a bit claustrophobic in its original multiband comp'd version - so even more now; if you get the c... - ...//::Raytrace - A Tribute to Caspar Pound::\\... The Hypnotist - House Is Mine
-
@raytrace: That acidy riff is so nice...
-
@zuur: :) - yeh I was in two minds (as im pretty sick of songs being put in groups they make no sense in) about putting this in the Acid group, but there is definitely enough acid running through this stuff to be included IMO - yeh that riff is so squishy - its lovely :D

Altrn8 sample?
-
@Eoin Bishop: no sorry, I actually sampled it from T99 - Anasthasia, not 'Frequency' (though Im pretty sure they are the EXACT same sound, although Frequency has a bit more effects on it). I think the T99 stab is definitely one of the earliest appearances of that noise. I think its an opera stab, distorted to fuck (and obviously low bitrate), chopped hard at start and end... (not sure though tbh). Songs like MNO - God Of Abraham would kinda support that hypotheses also I think.
Click to enter a
comment at 3.15-
perfect, what did you use to get that stab?
-
@Dj Paco aka Condition: its a sample of Anasthasia - I didnt actually do that much to it, as it takes in so many frequencies that you cant really chop out too much, - I used Flux Bittersweet set to 'Bitter' to make it attack more.

- Triggerpad on June 26, 2009 23:59
@raytrace: yesss!!!
-
@Triggerpad: yeh I love those pads and strings a lot :)
-
@raytrace: love this track (although not that much this version with the Aciied shout ,there's one without) ...and Kevin Saunderson's version is also top !
-
@Alkalino: yeh I like the vocal samples on this version most overall I think
-
@raytrace: i mean the female vocal as oppose to the Reese & Santonio version btw :) ...

Beltram - Energy Flash
- stephen roche on June 26, 2009 23:03
@raytrace: you know my thoughts about this tune!!!absoulutely one of the most important edm records ever made imo.classic.temple of sound on a friday night.still gives me a rush's listening to it nearly 20 years later.
-
@stephen roche: yeh no matter how many times I listen to it - still everytime the wah-wah acidy 'woh-woh' bit and all the crashes come in I smile :)
-
@raytrace: this one needs no words ...Joey Beltram is since more than 20 years a super producer !

Liasons D - Heartbeat
- stephen roche on June 26, 2009 23:09
@raytrace: all aboard all board....moo moo....moo moo!!!!
- The Observer on June 29, 2009 15:19
@stephen roche: Heart beat a diversion on the classic "What time is love" from KLF, but quite different and much more Belgian style Good stuff m8
-
@The Observer: yeh it was a bit ridiculous when Kopyright Liberation Front tried to sue Liasons D for using the synth line :s
-
@raytrace: Dr.Felix and Klf are definitely my favorites versions ...
-
@Alkalino: yeh I just love the 'New Beat is boring, acid house is dead, this is trance dance...' bit eheh
-
@raytrace: my favourite overall version is the one on the Doctorin The Tardis 12", or one of the versions on the plain black KLF 12" (I cant remember which one though)
-
@raytrace: although you gotta love the 'with the blessings of the Marquis De Sade' intro eheh
-
@raytrace: Marquis De Sade blessings can not go wrong:)

nice little beltram edits.whats the plug on it?
-
@stephen roche:I just copied the last LFOy noise from Energy Flash and put it under stuff - I turned it up a bit and had reverb going up to maximum by end of samples - also theres one which is slowed down to half speed and then reversed aswell

Cubic 22 - Night In Motion (Battle Plan Remix)
- stephen roche on June 26, 2009 23:16
@raytrace: i do like this version.proper warehouse rave.
-
@stephen roche: yeh I think this song would need some serious lasers, dry-ice and strobes :D - moonflowers lol - the other mix is amazing too - the one with the kinda classical synth bits that sounds like a soundtrack to 'The Terminator' or something...
-
@raytrace: oh man the memories with this one...but i prefer the original one !
-
@Alkalino: yeh I love the normal version too, but I was kinda trying to keep a slightly darker/bassier hypnotic feel and I though the piano/strings bit in that version wouldnt sound as good with the rest of the songs

-
@stephen roche: :D
-
@raytrace: love this choon
- rayspark-industries on October 16, 2009 12:39
@phresch: i remember this when turning to the b-side and discovering it for the first time better than the a side!
-
@rayspark-industries: yeh it definitely is, while I do have nostalgia for Fairy Dust, I always preferred this the roundness of the bass and cool rolling breakbeat and claps over the massive round kicks just got me instantly when I put it on and the really strobelighty feel of the acid squelches - great stuff :D
-
@phresch: yeh it is deffo one of my faves of all time

@rayspark-industries: yeh I have 'Rave Alert' on vinyl somewhere (although as usual it might have been swapped for something back then :s) it is good but a bit too hectic for this mix so I used 'Rave Alarm' instead

great mix i do love the belgian sound reminds me of the very first bits of this crazy music that i heard thank you when's part 2?:)
-
@zander: glad you like it man - yeh so many of the early dance music that I was into come from New Beat (pretty much all the second half of this mix), XL Recordings: The Second Chapter just sounded so amazing when I first heard it back then on cassette :D. Yeh i did have a lot of fun making this and I probably will make a more straight early 4/4 ish hardcore and R&S type stuff mix soon.
-
@raytrace: great stuff! Enjoying your other productions as well i was thinking more r&s when i was listening to this great period of music imo mate :)
-
@zander: cool man :) - yeh tbh I could listen to the entire Energy Flash, Ravesignal and Dominator 12"s for the rest of my life haha - oh and RHC Fever Callled Love of course :D

deep and crispy sound man
-
@Eugene X: yeh this was originally going into 'ASCENT' you can hear it is ruffly an arpeggiation of the same 4 ascending black keys (see how musical I am :p)/Altern-8 type sequence, I just couldnt get it to sit in it right, and there is already so much going on in the low to mid frequencies in that track, so I left this out, although I really like the sound of it tbh

Novation BassStation (original keyboard version) - arpeggiated build with 12db filter, BassStation is set to what apparently is the 303 sound according to the manual, sounds a bit bassy/round to me, but still a sound I like anywayz :) 24-bit 48khz MONO WAV - MoogmBase01(b) Artwork
