Let's call each other EEEEEeeeeeequinoooooooxx!
The lyrical concept tells of a relationship between a dreamer and a his dream. Equinox is an equilibrium of day and night, occurring twice a year. I used this idea to create a scenario where the dreamer and the girl in his dreams are together to create equinox. "Our love is somewhere, somewhere between the night and day" and "let's call, let's call each other 'equinox'" are the stand out lyric lines, and perhaps contain the most coherency.
The concept is a little shaky, but I like it that way. Dreams are weird, especially when you're in them. And when it comes down to it, I was just looking for an excuse to call a song "Equinox" after the name of my roommate's video crafting endeavors (http://www.youtube.com/equinoxvisual). Imagine a reoccurring dream of the boy/girl. Imagine thinking about his/her existence apart from you. Perhaps he/she lives in an alternate dimension and dreams of you. One goal of the lyrics (not sure if it was accomplished) is to get the listener to imagine both characters as real, to each other and to themselves. This is why, the lyrical section after the first chorus and drop, I interchanged "boy/girl" and "you/I" and "my/your" in the unison male and female vocal part. It's confusing, I know, but just don't think about it... but please do!
Vocally I wanted to shoot for as perfect of blend between myself and Heather as possible, hence the use (primarily) of unison vocals. In the beginning stages of tracking, Heather and I would record simultaneously to try and get in synch with each other. I think it worked quite well, as we ended up learning to sing it the same way.
