Rashid Ajami first discovered the vibrant rave and dance music scene whilst living in his hometown London. It grabbed his imagination and nurtured a desire to create emotive electronic music. His interests range across the wide spectrum of the scene and he enjoys experimenting with many different sounds.
His first official release was in early 2012, a progressive house track on Sambuca, entitled ‘Lets Be Free’. Remixes came from Jerome Isma-Ae and tech duo David Amo & Julio Navas. The track reached No. 1 on Juno Download and entered the Top 10 on Beatport’s Progressive House chart and received support from the likes of Paul Oakenfold and Above and Beyond.
More recently, Rashid has brought his soulful vision to deep house. In August 2012 he released ‘Rule The World’ with huge remixes from Maya Jane Coles and Ramon Tapia on Yellowtail Records. Reaching No. 19 in the Beatport Deep House chart and No. 2 in the German club charts, the EP gained support from many top artists including Tocadisco, Kaiserdisco, Nico Lahs and Andre Crom to name a few. It was also included on Wankelmut’s compilation released via Get Physical music.
So far, 2013 has been a defining year for Rashid, having released the massive ‘Unstoppable’ on Kittball Records. Tube and Berger’s remix of the track reached No. 3 in the Beatport Tech House chart with all other mixes also charting. Support has come from Roger Sanchez, Coyu, Hed Kandi and many more.
His most recent release, ‘Messenger’ with Jerome Robins, is included on Vol. 13 of Roger Sanchez’s ‘Release Yourself’ compilation album via Stealth Records. Roger himself has favoured ‘Messenger’, calling it ‘a very deep and sexy track’.
Rashid is currently making a name for himself in New York, having founded ‘Afterschool’, a series of events in the city incorporating art, design and music. A collaboration of creative minds, gaining a very loyal underground following. On top of this, summer has brought shows at well-known spots such as Electric Beach and Marquee Club in New York with more dates to be announced.
With plenty more tracks in the pipeline, including forthcoming releases on Anjunadeep, Rashid is looking at a very busy year and is certain to continue turning heads.
