Ranjit Nijjer is one of Melbourne’s oldskool techno DJ’s who made it to the future. With a solid following and consistent gigs since he started Technoir in 2004, Ranjit knows how to rock a dancefloor.
Technoir is one of Melbourne’s longest running underground techno nights and has been a home for all the techno freaks left over from the 90’s as well as schooled the new generation in
4/4 delights. Now in it’s ninth year the club has a regular roster of Ranjit Nijjer, Simon Slieker, Dee Dee and Tronikelesch, and in the past has hosted internationals such as Woody McBride (USA), Erphun (USA), Ignition Technician (UK), Ade Fenton (UK), and DJ Misjah (HOL).
His calling card is precise mixing, extended overlays, and that special ability to get the ratio right between drive and funk. While it’s Techno that has been his true love, his passions reach to Tech-House, Electro, and even the odd bit of Nu-Wave Disco.
Outside of Technoir, Ranjit has played for party crews such as Pretty Simple, Yeah Fuck Yeah, Ishtar, Mixed Messages, MTC, Instinct, Unstable Sounds, Machine, MoreBass, Lectroland and F.L.I.R.T. He has made regular radio appearances on Kiss Fm, as well as featuring on Triple J’s ‘Mix Up’ and ‘The Club’.
2012 saw Ranjit get involved in a dynamic new event headed by 9 independent crews, “When the Smoke Clears”. This venture has hosted Chris Liebing (Germany), PERC (UK), Tommy Four Seven (UK) and Audio Injection/ Truncate (USA).
In 2013 Ranjit has been producing a weekly Technoir podcast for the Belgium online radio station Mix Industry. The show reflects Technoir’s ethos
of dancefloor-focused music with an eclectic blend of all things Techno.
You can catch Ranjit tearing up venues with future beats and old skool enthusiasm; it’s time to get spiritual with Melbourne’s techno baba.
