It’s been much talked about and anticipated and now its finally here, The debut album from Stagga. It comes after two undeniably storming releases set the way on Rag & Bone with ‘Sick As Sin’ and ‘Face get Splat’ and which really put Stagga on the map. This really is a little bit different. Bursting with warped basslines only Stagga could produce, it weaves a meandering thread through dubstep and hip-hop. It’s very much the former but it is expertly and subtlely infused with the latter.
Stagga relocated to Berlin in 2009 where this album was produced and also where the name comes from. His studio is in a former ‘Warmluft Raum’ which translates as Warm Air Room. It’s a fitting title, some of the tunes have an uneasy feel of being carried away on a hot thermal.
Stagga stays true to his early links with Cardiff’s best MCs with collaborations here with Skamma (who vocalised Sick As Sin) and Joe Blow (who contributed lyrics to the awesome Stagga track ‘Genik Riddim’ released on Starkey’s Slit Jockey label earlier this year). There’s also a link up with Don Leisure, much renowned for his part with The Darkhouse Family. And by no means least there are 2 tracks co-produced with rising dubstep star Monky, Stagga’s early partner in crime since back in the day.
