About
PUT THE RIFLE DOWN formed in 2004 and built their rep playing small sweaty parties between Toronto and Montreal with the likes of Kidstreet, Crystal Castles, and We Are Wolves. The band's pristine production, infectious synth hooks, and muscular beats have landed them gigs at Pop Montreal, SXSW, NXNE, CMW, PRIDE, The Drake's TIFF afterparty, Rollin' & Scratchin' (YYZ Records), and Shit La Merde.
Their first single Architekt was released in 2007 on a UK-only vinyl compilation called Hordes Of Canada alongside tracks by Think About Life, Uncut, and You Say Party!, and quickly sold out its run. Their debut full-length, Selector, followed in 2009 on now-defunct Montreal tastemaker label Summer Lovers Unlimited (Crystal Castles, Duchess Says, The Teenagers), and also sold out. Selector was followed by an independent release, NRG, in 2010.
New Dance was written, recorded, and mixed by the band in 2011 in Toronto. For the release show, the band is teaming up with Silent Shout, Toronto’s premiere dark electronic dance party that’s recently hosted the likes of Powers, Kidstreet, Class Actress, and Digits. The party happens Thursday, October 20, at The Drake Underground in Toronto. See you there.
