The City of Cape Town has been granted a court interdict to prevent protest march by the Cape Town Informal Settlements Organization in the CBD from going ahead.

The municipality approached the Western Cape High Court this week as a last resort to preempt the march.

The city appealed to demonstration organisers to respect the court's ruling.

Thousands of residents from local townships including Khayelitsha and Gugulethu were expected to march to the provincial legislature today in protest against a lack of adequate sanitation and housing.
