SoundCloud, the online audio distribution and collaboration platform, today announced that Jamie Kantrowitz, former Senior Vice President of Strategy and Global Marketing for MySpace Music, is joining the SoundCloud team as a non-executive director.
In her 5 years at MySpace, Kantrowitz pioneered the business of MySpace's music and entertainment channels before relocating to London, where she played an integral leadership role in the company's international expansion across 30 territories. In 2008 she took up the role as SVP of Strategy and Global Marketing for MySpace Music, a joint venture between MySpace and the major labels, where she was responsible for content partnerships and original programming, artist strategy and label relations, and consumer and product marketing initiatives. Kantrowitz brings deep knowledge of the music industry, coupled with proven digital media and marketing expertise, to SoundCloud's board of directors.
"I'm thrilled to be collaborating with SoundCloud at such an exciting time in their business," Kantrowitz said. "Having already achieved recognition for their innovation in creating meaningful tools for music professionals, SoundCloud has a fantastic opportunity to be at the core of creation, collaboration and expression of music online."
Alexander Ljung, CEO and co-founder of SoundCloud, added, “Jamie is a fantastic addition to our Board of Directors. Her insight into and experience of the music industry's pains and needs will be vital for our future development, and will help us on our path towards becoming the leading online platform for music creators."
