Here's the OUYA Welcome Sound! Slap it on your phones, so when someone jokingly asks, "How do I even pronounce that!?" You can play it right then and there - from our lips to your ears! "Oooh-YAH!" www.ouya.tv

I absolutely love this start-up sound - short, tribal as hell, and catchy. Can't wait to hear it on nice headphones. Don't listen to all of the negativity. It's always funny to me how much people love to complain, especially those who don't even offer up alternate suggestions. At most give them an option to change the sound in the dashboard. But I want to hear OOO-YAH every time I boot up!

@Zaf9670: What a great idea! I loved the SEGA start up sound. I'm surprised that my SEGA still even works!

@Zaf9670: If and when I get an OUYA, it will DEFINITELY say Sega. Or maybe the Escapist Magazine "HA!" sound at the beginning of videos... or maybe both... OH THE POSSIBILITIES!

Well, i think it will grow on people.. the name with its start-up sound. However, things shouldn't be forced. People are supposed to really love it the first time.

@imajia: This is completely correct. I really hope they let the community work on making a different one, then let us as a whole decide which one's best!

@Photonater: It's true. This is the first thing you hear when you buy the console, and you will be hearing it every time you start it up. It should be pleasant and inviting, not sort of weird and awkward. Though I agree with @Photonater, you will likely be able to change it, but I think they should rethink the sound and I'm sure there are people at OUYA who agree.

@gr7: I agree. It should really just be a sound, not voices. It's kind of weird.

@Conzar: I agree! It makes me think of the Ubuntu welcome, which also sounds pretty tribal. Except I liked ubuntu much better =p I'd like to see this changed to something more musical. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CQaEXZ-df6Y

@Cheradine: And how do you pronounce "bout"? How about "ought"? And "out"? What about "scourge"? "Hour"? "Borough"? None of those "ou" sounds are pronounced like the "ou" in OUYA. Hell, your own example isn't even right--the "ou" in "would" and "could" are definitely not pronounced that way--they're pronounced like the "oo" in "book", not the "oo" in "boot".
What's really hilarious is your "plough-on OUYA" comment (which, by the way, shouldn't have a hyphen). The "ou" in "plough" isn't pronounced like the one in OUYA, either!
Anyone who tries to assert that there is one single correct pronunciation-spelling mapping for any kind of vowel sound in English is, unquestionably, an idiot. Cheradine, maybe you should learn your own language before opening your mouth.
I'm posting with an anonymous username here because I know how vicious stupid people can be.

Not sure what to think here.... I understand the philosophy of "if you don't like it, make a better one", but peer review and feedback has its place as well. I am with the others in saying this isn't a very defining jingle...

HELLO! Open source...take it and tweak it! Judge it not...it is open and free to customize, be creative not opinionated...but if you have no creativity then wait for someone to change it to something you may like and download it. I could go more into it than this but I am delighted to see this work and greatly anticipate the release of such an open machine.

Generally, welcome sounds are softer, brighter... brings you a calm feeling.
Even "SEGAAA" has an smooth instrumental background, I missed it. - Robert Hoogendoorn

The beginning reminded me of the sound of a transforming Autobot / Decepticon. I liked it, but maybe robotize the "Ouya!" a bit more?

@soundeziner: Agreed. It reminds me of Sega's old intro for Sonic games, which is a good thing.

@imajia: Fully agree. It's absolutely awful. The name is bad, but then they decided to use it in this sound bite.
When I get mine I'm removing that ugly text on the front and changing that sound bite to something far more suitable. If it's as open source as they say, should be easy, right?
