'Sidewards' is the debut release for Yorkshire based producer Pitch Twit, the sucker-punch pseudonym of Thomas Sidebottom. Although coming from a classical music background, the synthesized bleeps and wobbles squeezing out of the speakers during 'Sidewards' and 'Pieces Of 4' here show Pitch Twit's knack for electronic dance music - twisting sounds and melody to accentuate his percussive thumps.
Lead track 'Sidewards' jerks Pitch Twit to life in a mêlée of synthetic splutters and bass rumbles. With influences ranging from Mr Oizo to Mr Scruff, this is a wonky one indeed and only gets weirder as the track progresses, including the obscure mumblings of an acid casualty. Running short and sweet at under four minutes, 'Sidewards' is a perky portion of electronic oddness.
'Pieces Of 4' is a more languid track, spreading itself out and taking its time to develop. The signature Pitch Twit sound pervades throughout: bit-crunched beats, frazzled synths and a healthy dollop of low end warmth.
