Several different musical discourses comprise Divided Attention, and each is tied to a specific tempo marking. Over the course of the work, these relationships become blurred, until the listener is left with a composite of all that has happened. Though the title began as a pun on the audience's reaction to the music, it gradually assumed the meaning of the psychological concept of being able to respond simultaneously to multiple tasks. Performers: Yosef Farnsworth, violin; Shawyon Malek, violin; Kurt Rohde, viola; Leighton Fong, cello.
