About
Growing up as a teenager Pheromone was highly influenced by the musical likings of his older brother. Already at the age of seven he abandoned his favourite children's songs and started listening to dark eighties music. EBM bands like Front 242, The Neon Judgement, Nitzer Ebb and The Klinik were spinned frequently, but raised with an open mind he also started exploring New Wave and Punk. Bands like Alien sex Fiend, Bauhaus, Joy Division, Pink Floyd, The Mission, Sisters of Mercy, The Cult, The Cure, The Clash and The Ramones are in his all time favourite's list.
But getting into puberty his musical tastes shifted more towards Rock and Metal. While moshpitting and listening to his favorite bands like Iron Maiden, Metallica, Black Sabbath, Arch Enemy, Tool, A perfect Circle, Channel Zero, Iced Earth, In Flames, Nevermore, Nine Inch Nails, Nocturnal Rites, Pantera, Amorphis, Mourning Beloveth, Dream Theater, Opeth,... he still kept his love for Electronic music. This was even more true, when at the age of sixteen he started going out to local rave parties and discovered what techno music was all about. Raving to the pumping four to the flour kick was now his favorite spare time activity.
But with his open minded mentality, he kept his eyes and ears open to new musical influences and grew never tired of exploring new musical styles and genres. The summer of 2008 was a defining moment in his life, when he started discovering Dubstep. But he quickly got bored of the wobble sound that dominated the Dubstep scene at that time. Luckily for him, some producers were crossing boundaries in the genre and kept the sound fresh and interesting. The freedom, the no rules mentality and the freshness of the sound was so appealing, that it eventually got him into producing tracks of his own. While discovering artist like Phaeleh, Ital Tek, Kryptic Minds, Boxcutter, Burial, Martyn, F, A Made Up Sound, 2562, James Blake, Pangaea, Cosmin TRG, Hyetal and Scuba, he could no longer resist the temptation of making music.
In the summer of 2009 he bought ableton live 8 and started experimenting. With no musical education whatsoever he struggled not only with the technical site of making electronic music but also with music theory in general. But not willing to give up, he used the world wide web as his tutor. After a while some sounds started to emerge from his PC speakers. Encouraged by this, he didn't give up and started experimenting even more with sounds. While practicing, he gained more confidence and after a while he decided it was time for an audience. First he tested his music on family and friends, but after a while he decided it was time to get a more professional kind of feedback.
Soundcloud proved to be the perfect platform to receive this kind of feedback. Pheromone is still in a very experimental phase and he is still searching to create a sound of his own. He is certainly not willing to submit to the boundaries of a certain genre, but wants to keep his music as open minded and various as possible. He is always looking for new musical influences and tries to incorporate this into his creations. He's more and more getting into the British sound, thanks to producers like pariah, Joy Orbinson, Mount Kimbie and so on, who are going back to the roots and are highly influenced by UK Garage and 2 step.
The last couple of months he's more and more getting into the future garage scene and tries to incorporate elements from it into his own tracks. However, still shaping his sound and experimenting until this day, pheromone's sound can be described as a mixture between house, dubstep, ambient, future garage and even hip hop influences.
Aware that he has still a lot to learn, he's happy to receive feedback and exchange experiences.
