This was originally inspired by feeling overwhelmed with sadness while listening to a testimony of a Japanese mother who lost her daughter in the tsunami. The guitar parts were written as immediate responses; however, I eventually threw the song out as I was unsatisfied with the results. An essay on children in relation to Hiroshima/Nagasaki and a deep rising conviction to do something about the absolute atrocity that is worldwide child trafficking led me to reexamine the song; here is the resulting piece of music. Theologian Dietrich Bonhoeffer says, "The ultimate test of a moral society is the kind of world that it leaves to its children.” Adapting from cellist Pablo Casals response, here is my response and our responsibility, "we must work," offering what we have to offer "to make the world worthy of its children." So humbly, I offer this song.
