About
perkXsoundlabs is the solo electronica project of Paul Rolan Perkes based out of Phoenix, AZ. In this project, he explores the intellectual side of electronica with strong influences from progressive trance, chiptune and progressive rock. Paul started his formal musical training at the age of four with piano lessons and he first became involved with electronic music in the early eighties. Soon thereafter he bought his first piece of professional gear, an E-mu Systems Emax SE. His major influences include Kraftwerk, Vangelis, Tangerine Dream and Jean Michele Jarre plus more recent influences from progressive trance like DJ Yahel, Astrix and Indra. He holds a degree in physics with a minor in numerical analysis and worked in a university laboratory managing computers and research software. Paul has primary progressive multiple sclerosis. Music composition and production are activities that he can still enjoy, and which keep him sane.
