Need a gift for a gifted musician?
Paul Gilbody - singer/songwriter.
PAUL GILBODY has been prominent in the Scottish music scene since moving to Edinburgh from his hometown of Belfast in the 90′s. Quickly making musical contacts as a vocalist in various bands, he conceived and founded seminal 12-piece funk outfit The Ugly Groove Movement where as vocalist and bassist he honed his writing and arrangement skills on two albums of original material.
Taking up double-bass in 2000, he formed groove trio Gecko 3 with singer/guitarist Marty Philip and drummer Hugh Martin. The band have since toured in Europe and the USA, and performed at Ronnie Scott’s in London and at various UK and European festivals and released 3 EPs.
Now focusing on his solo work, Paul has performed all over Scotland, Australia and in London and continues to absorb wide-ranging influences and create his own unique sound.
As a session musician he performs regularly with award-winning singer-songwriters Alex Cornish and Andi Neate and has toured and recorded with many artists including KT Tunstall, Horse, Found and Rosie Brown.
Paul appears on KT‘s multi-platinum selling album Eye to the Telescope, Alex Cornish‘s latest album No Shore, Andi Neate‘s latest albums: Crows, Rooks and Ravens and Lion Taming for Astronauts and Found‘s Etiquette EP.
As a founder member of Scotland’s Gospel Truth Choir, Paul has worked with many well known artists including The Skids, Ricky Ross and Lorraine Mcintosh, Karine Polwart and B.A. Robertson and supported Sir Tom Jones.
“Paul is a very talented guy, managing to work Dave Matthews style acoustic guitar, Jamie Lidell-quality vocal looping, Jason Mraz-like irreverence … and a voice evocative sometimes of Incubus’s Brandon Boyd and other times of Jeff Buckley on “Last Goodbye” as well as many stops in between, into one fabulous set. An exemplary singer/songwriter all around…” No Sleep in Brooklyn Blog

“His vocal dexterity amounted to something approaching a Ginger Baker drum solo.” Lothian Life
“Paul‘s musical talent and diverse vocal range shone through as he made his way through a mesmerizing set of his own funky acoustic songs. As one of the stand out acts from the night Paul wowed the crowd with some impressive guitar work and extraordinary looping techniques, at some points you could have been forgiven for thinking there was a whole band on stage!” www.fondoo.co.uk
