Britain’s Passenger will team up with the crème of Australian music on their forthcoming 3rd album, ‘Flight Of The Crow’ – out 17th September on Inertia. The brainchild of frontman and core member, Mike Rosenberg, the album came together as the 26-year-old singer/songwriter journeyed across Australia.
Featuring collaborations with Lior, Josh Pyke, Katie Noonan, Boy & Bear, Kate Miller Heidke, Simon J Berckelman (Philadelphia Grand Jury), Brian Campeau and Elana Stone, Matt Corby and Jess Chalker was entirely self-funded by the busking income Rosenberg earned, performing on Australia’s streets. ‘Flight Of The Crow’ is the remarkable result of Rosenberg’s intrepid journey, and the friendships struck along the way.
The album was recorded in Sydney’s famous BJB Studios. Co-produced by Berkfinger (aka. Simon J. Berckelman of Philadelphia Grand Jury), it came into being over February and March of 2010 - although almost all of the core elements (bass drums, guitars and lead vox) were recorded in one single day!
Josh Pyke recounts how himself an Rosenberg came to collaborate: “A while back, a friend of one my good mates in the UK emailed me and said a guy called Mike was coming out to Oz, that we'd get along... Since Mike was living around the corner we started catching up pretty often, and having a few jams, and Mike asked me to get involved in his project. By that time I’d heard his music, and seen him perform at a low key soup party, and really liked his songwriting, so I said yes.”
Lior shares a similar affection for Rosenberg’s songwriting, claiming: "Mike is one of those songwriters with an infectious passion for his craft. The songs seem to well out from somewhere deep. Recording this track felt refreshingly effortless and spontaneous."
Showcasing a dedication to a grass roots style of craftsmanship and collaboration, ‘Flight Of The Crow’ is a testimony to a lone musician who travelled the globe and, from the street, connected with some of Australia’s finest musical talents. As an album born of the road, ‘Flight Of The Crow’ speaks to the compelling quality of Passenger’s music and the striking sincerity of his lyrics.
‘Flight Of The Crow’ is out 17th September 2010 on Inertia.
