Stiff Peaks is the debut EP from Paradiance. The group is comprised of Fresno, CA musicians Nate Butler, Michael Faeth, Tommy Joy and Jeff Logan. Some of the local bands they have individually and/or together played in include Pusher, The Beetles, Trutone, Strip Twister, Supreme Love Gods, Tales of Young Robert, Black Fry and Sebastian Collé. Michael played with Seattle/Portland group Jessamine, recording a 7” single on Sub Pop and two LPs for Chicago’s Kranky Records. In addition to the group, Stiff Peaks also includes contributions from a number of
talented guest musicians.
Included are five original songs and two cover songs: “Turn The Page” by Bob Seger and “Place To Be” by Nick Drake.
Stiff Peaks was not materialized by the typical means of a band rehearsing together and then going into the studio to record the songs. Instead, this record was put together pieces at a time. Recording was done at different times and locations. Some parts were received via email and later mixed in. Some material was recorded this year and some dates back over a decade. The record is an eclectic blend in the genre of indie soul, pop and rock.
