Systems Administrator (Berlin)

You are a skilled system administrator with many years of experience in running high-traffic web sites. You know how to best build up a performant and secure web application stack all the way from routers to servers to load balancers. You'll join one of the most competent web application teams in Europe as a systems administrator to provide technical support and administration to the ever-growing number of machines running soundcloud.com.

Your key responsibilities at SoundCloud

  • Install software, apply patches, manage file systems, monitor performance and troubleshoot alerts from commercial, open source and locally developed monitoring tools
  • Build and maintain a scalable storage cluster
  • Define, document, and maintain the system and network architecture within soundcloud.com
  • Identify and recommend future technology and architectural advancements to support soundcloud.com, technology migration, integration, and evolution
  • Manage and lead hardware and software migration and upgrade efforts of varying size and complexity
  • Work with our hosting providers to resolve issues and perform updates
  • System failure analysis and recovery

Knowledge and skills required

  • At least 5 years professional systems maintenance experience in a Unix environment, preferably Linux and/or Solaris
  • Great shell programming skills
  • Deep knowledge of all things networks
  • Security auditioning skills
  • Knowledge of server hardware and architecture

Valuable Additional Skills

  • Experience with large-scale (1 petabyte+) storage systems
  • Fluency in the nginx/Thin/MySQL/*nix stack

Your key responsibilities at SoundCloud

  • Develop the back-end parts of new key features for the SoundCloud Rails-based platform
  • Optimize the back-end of existing features for performance and stability
  • Track down and resolve issues with the platform in close communication with our users

Knowledge and skills required

  • Solid experience with Ruby and preferably at least one more language (C/C++ is a plus)

Marketing Operations and Sales Analyst (Berlin)

You’re the conversion rate ninja who can’t stop thinking about Freemium.

You’ll come join us in the Berlin office and take responsibility for areas such as marketing and sales analytics, online sales, certain administrative duties and potentially search engine marketing (organic and paid).

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Marketing and Sales Analytics–mainly focused on web metrics, marketing campaign results and sales activity. This includes analyzing current usage, creating, executing and tracking campaigns and following up on results in order to maximize sales. You’ll also work with designing and refining our stats dashboard and use spreadsheets, multiple database sources and web metrics applications to generate additional reports.
  • Inside Sales-provide existing users with product or service information and recommend upgrades to meet customer needs. Determine if special orders / packages are necessary and work with senior management to design / implement.

Additional areas of responsibility

  • Analyze purchase behavior and ongoing seek to optimize sales.
  • Assist with the development and ongoing maintenance of the data dashboard
  • Provide input in product development and marketing initiatives
  • Run ad-hoc reports as needed to support lead generation and sales activity
  • Use pivot tables and external database sources to develop custom reports on an as needed basis
  • Operational Support–facilitate and coordinate accounting (invoice management), budget tracking and report communication
  • Potentially work with creating, maintaining and monitoring SEM (organic and paid) campaigns.

Knowledge, Skills, and/or Abilities Required

  • You read Andy Chen’s blog.
  • Proficiency with an array of office and web analytic applications (e.g. Excel, Powerpoint/Keynote, Google Analytics/AdWords) on an expert level
  • Very organized, detail oriented and self motivated
  • Ability to work on multiple priorities and/or projects simultaneously
  • Excellent listening and communications skills, both verbal and written
  • Independent problem-solving abilities and ability to meet reasonable deadlines
  • Extra points if you have experience with SQL and feel comfortable running live database queries.
