Need a gift for a gifted musician?
The year: 1985. The place: a quiet South Florida suburb where a young couple had purchased their first home to accommodate their growing tribe of three boys. The price: a whopping $79k. The concept of “Reaganomics” was in full swing, the compact disc had just been introduced to American consumers, and the 8-bit Nintendo was the latest rage. The Unabomber was at large, and the Cold War was finally winding down.
It all began one day after school when my older brother quietly came home with a new 12” LP tucked under his arm. Fortunately, big brother’s attempts to hide the record proved to be futile. A tall black woman graced the cover, hands on her hips, with a cellulite covered back-side barely contained in a red bathing suit. It was 2 Live Crew’s “Move Something.” This is where the obsession with “BASS" began…
A lot has transpired between then and now, but the obsession continues. I’m not going to bore you with DJ clichés about how I played the piano as a boy, or rocked out to my dad’s Kraftwerk records before I learned how to say “mama.” I was born, raised and have circled the fine city of Miami for many more years than I’d like to admit; discovering the myriad of beats and flavors that this ever evolving city has to offer…which brings us to the present.
Many styles of music have influenced my current sound and the proof is in my constantly evolving DJ sets, which have a tendency to light up the dance floor with elements of Tech House, Tribal, Minimal and Deep flavors. The one constant: DRUMS...and where there are drums, BASS is sure to follow.
