About 30 mins east of Downtown Los Angeles resides Drew Porras, a 23 year old native of LA County, who (under the moniker ONTHE88) has only begun to conduct and release his sonic experiments upon the digital world. Starting in Spring '11 with a pair of tracks on youtube, ONTHE88 quickly evolved from a Lo-Fi indie pop project, rooted in chillwave, to its current blend of dreamy atmospherics, analog synths, and ever so slight touches and nods to 80s new wave and synthpop. Influenced from a young age by the decade, artists such as New Order, Thompson Twins and The Cure trickle into the aural mix alongside more contemporary influences like Neon Indian, Washed Out, and AIR. But moreso than musical influences, is the power and versatility of the synthesizer that mystifies, inspires and drives Drew Porras to create his own unique brand of what he calls, "Synth based Alt-Pop".
