Need a gift for a gifted musician?
On The Roof is a collaborative amalgamation of 12 musicians and 4 dancers – a group of individuals each with strong creative personalities and a range of experience in different artistic fields, all tied together by a shared love of improvisation.
The ensemble had its beginnings in 2011, when a group was formed to recreate Charles Mingus’ incredible piece ‘The Black Saint and the Sinner Lady’. Musicians and dancers and choreographer Tony Thatcher worked together on the piece, transcribing, learning and creating, culminating in two performances in February 2012 at Laban School and Blackheath Halls. Since then the group has evolved and started creating its own original work.
