Christopher Wakefield aka Okibi is an innovative and unconventional producer, live performance artist and DJ. Brought up in the eclectic drum & bass, hardcore punk and hip-hop cultures of the Pacific Northwest, Okibi has established a unique sound in the growing bass music sphere.
Okibi brings a diverse selection of styles to every live performance, from forward-thinking footwork, house and hip-hop, to rolling liquid riddims, dubwise exclusives and grimy street anthems. Steeped in the hip-hop tradition, he utilizes scratching and turntablism techniques, effects and controllers in the mix, creating a distinctive and eclectic soundscape.
Okibi’s left-field productions continue to push the envelope within the evolving bass music sphere. Spearheading his own unique, bass-heavy GRAVELIFE sound, he draws influences from everything from gangster rap to black metal. Described as “dramatic” and “chilling”, Okibi’s GRAVELIFE sound throws the listener into an auditory abyss.
As co-founder of Union Sound System, Okibi supports a steadily growing network of avant-garde musicians, artists, designers, technicians and promoters. Involved in a number of projects, including the live p.a. electro-punk stylings of AUTOMATON, Okibi stays true to old-school roots while pioneering future vibes.
