Disgraceland AKA DJ J AKA Hong Kong John

Deep, dubby house & techno beats .

It all kicked off in 1981 when, after the DJ failed to turn up, I started to play records at a pub disco in rural Leicestershire. I was only 9, but straight away I realised that I loved to make people dance. After I was dragged from the decks (Citronics, I seem to remember) as it was 'way past your bedtime' and 'time we got you home' the feeling I got remained with me.

Fast forward to 1990 years, and it still hadn't left. By this time I'd done the school disco thing and was deep into goth / industrial electronica. Front 242 / Nitzer Ebb / Bauhaus / Love & Rockets were my mantra and also a fascination with the instruments that you used to create these sounds.

It wasn't until a visited a free rave, and after walking for endless miles, smashed out of my face, I came across a tent from which there came a sound that grabbed hold of my entire soul.

It was Age of Love / Age of Love and to this day it gives me goosebumps.

Since then I've played a variety of styles including house, techno, drum & bass and breaks all over the place - consistent throughout this has been the love of beats, bass and the mix. the beats and the bass.

Peace,
J
