A passionate collector of all things music. AJ was born in SF to musician parents, and purchased his first record, Run DMC's "Raising Hell" at age 5, then came the first cassette, Beastie's "Licence to Ill" a few months later, and the passion for hip hop was born. Moved to Michigan at age 10, and continued collecting everything from conscious hip hop and r&b, to indie rock, grunge, and big beat. Was introduced to the party scene in Detroit & Toronto, and quickly fell in love with Detroit techno after hearing Jeff Mills' "Live at the Liquid Room". Sold live DJ sets burned onto compact discs at parties all over the midwest in the early 2000's, and began collecting techno/house tracks in 2003. Finally decided the collection had to be shared in 2007, and learned to mix/blend w/laptop, midi, and no headphones.
After years of being a techno purist, all the other influences began to seep back in, which inspired The Soul Pickle parties in Philly. With the help of the rizumu crew, The Soul Pickle has hosted the likes of Eddie C, DJ Nature, Jamie 3:26, Social Disco Club, Anthony Mansfield, Matthew Kyle, and so on. So far AJ has played in Detroit, New York, Baltimore, and all over Philly, and dreams of sharing his diverse taste with music lovers worldwide.
