Thanks to http://soundcloud.com/stephensaldanha for challenging me to make something cool with a fart sample that was recorded by his friend. Here's the result. It was made using 8 different copies of the sample loaded into Ableton's Sampler instrument, each one being processed and re-pitched in different ways. It ended up sounding like an alien hive of some sort.If you dig it, feel free to use it in anything you want, commercial or otherwise. It's royalty free, but please don't resell it in a library.

whats the unlikely source? How'd you make this? sounds like cicadas and crickets with some kind of pulsating turbine.

@JAnderson: Great description, very inspiring. Makes me want to take your idea and run with it even more in a future sound design. Thanks for the feedback!

soft, deep, hollow airy sounds feel nice in the ear. i imagine if i where to stand in front of a giant wind turbine w hands tightly over my ears it might sound similar to this. LOVE the tiny worms of sound wriggling around in the thick murkiness of this. WELL done.

@JoshSaldanha: Thanks, Josh! I extended your fart with a lot of looping and pitch-layering through various samplers to get it sounding that way. I had a friend sitting in on the sound design session and we were both giggling like 12 year old boys while working with the source material.

@stephensaldanha: Strange, the description I wrote above was linking to you when I originally wrote it, but I woke up today and it was just your name with no link. Soundcloud's text editing has been acting really strangely for me. Thanks again for the challenge, it was a fun distraction :)

Great job man, Steve just showed me what you done to my fart ha ha! Brilliant! I'm surprised you managed to get it to sound so cool. I always thought the original was too short, sqeaky and useless.

It was recorded by me, my brother farted into the mic, but yeah you can find the original sample of my page. Sounds niceage, did you just slow it down and process it and stuff cause its really short anyway.

This sounds like a cicada chorus on Vulcan. Seriously.

@renderful: Haha, it wasn't nearly as disgusting as it could have been.
