Ne·o·ter·ic : A modern person; a person who advocates new ideas. (We had to look it up too). Forever on the search for the perfect beat, never constrained by genre, nor expectations. We can all admit, it's not the best moniker ever thunk, but it's certainly fitting. It's this tireless dedication and undeniable passion for music that has established Neoteric as an internationally renown DJ, producer, and tastemaker.
A new year brings new projects, and Main Course is his latest. Tipped as one of the most exciting new labels to surface in years, Main Course (together with partners Astronomar & Bot) aims to release only the best, of all sorts of club music. For FREE. With 7 current releases, and another dozen planned for this year, there will be no shortage of good music, including the latest from Wax Motif & Neoteric 'Das Machines' (Aug 20th, 2013) already catching supports from A-trak, Tommy Trash, Roska and more. Just wait til it drops! Prior to this, Neoteric spent the last 3 years cutting his teeth in Europe before relocating back to Canada in 2012. During that time they compiled and released 'Wax Motif & Neoteric presents Strictly Rhythms Vol 9' for legendary imprint Strictly Rhythm. With full access to their massive catalog, they remixed, edited and assembled 27 tracks (2xCD, 2x Vinyl) tapping talented friends like Subb An, Oliver $, Optimo, Drop The Lime, Oliver and many others, while remixing DJ Sneak, Todd Terry, and collecting spins from Pete Tong. Following up their massive hit 'Go Deep' (Southern Fried / Dim Mak) was no small feat – with Diplo & A-trak championing the original version, Avicii (and every other DJ in the world?) playing the inescapably huge Torro Torro remix, while Skrillex and Boys Noize showed EDC and Coachella crowds the power of the Astronomar Remix; That song was everywhere. Prior to that, a collabo with Crookers, the Gonzo 'Springer' saw massive supports and festival plays from the likes of Jack Beats, Annie Mac. A remix of The Rapture's single “How Deep is Your Love” spread far and wide, with features on XLR8R and supports from even Tiesto. Not a bad year, in addition remixes and releases on labels such as Defected, Mad Decent, Dim Mak & Slow Roast.
As bright as the future looks, the works of the past can't be forgotten. A noted tastemaker, Neo's worked with legendary producer Switch as Dubsided's A&R, and helped sign countless other names we all know, to labels we all admire. His compilation series 'Turned On' now spans 2 volumes, and are available on Discobelle Records. Another side project with U-Tern named 'Smoke & Mirrors' saw the duo remix the likes of Major Lazer, Kid Sister, Tittsworth and others back in 2008. Around that time Neoteric and Matty C started 'The White Light Mixes', a podcast series based on the music of the night, of time and space, and everything cosmic.
The world has been good to Neoteric. A sold out gig at the legendary London institution Fabric, an Amsterdam Dance Event showcase at Melkweg, 3 Australian tours, plus gigs from Miami to LA, Zagreb to Berlin and everywhere in between, times are busy. If anything, we hope you recognise the passion and obsession to try to bring you music that feels good. Hopefully it's this passion that ultimately defines him.
