1995-1
*** Attention: If you are not into House Music that includes (some) screaming vocals - female & male - you should not listen to this mix - it could very much annoy you ***
In 1995, I was very much hooked on deep house from different cities around the world.
I just moved back to Frankfurt after spending two years in Heidelberg and London, started working at Delirium Records which was half owned by Ata (of Robert Johnson fame).
Also started a residency at the now legendary Wild Pitch Club (with Ata & Heiko MSO & Roland Leesker) which was dedicated to all sorts of house music - and Frankfurts best Thursday night out. Every week for 5 years.
Chez Damier, Ron Trent, Romanthony, Murk, Todd Terry, Benji Candelario, Swing 52, Mood II Swing, Masters At Work, Danny Tenaglia, Moodymann, etc. etc. etc. were my and our heroes.
For some, this hasn't changed since. For some good reasons.
But let's not go there....
Last night after a cassette tape recording session for a Barker & Baumecker project, I found an old tape of mine which I consider a rarity since there aren't many existing ones left.
It contained a club recording from 1995. Deep House, you name it.
1995 was officially 4 years after my first public DJ gig, my mixing was still in development and there are loads of so called mixing errors in this mix, but I don't care. Mixing music is always more difficult than just mixing two loops.
I used to buy 2 copies of a record sometimes to try out what my heroes did in the States and elsewhere:
Doubling records, making short delays & flanges. No, Pioneer DJM's weren't built yet!
And tractors were used on the field...
This was still testing out what I can do with two records to satisfy myself (and hopefully the dancers as well)- but still far from perfection.
Challenge and spontaneousness were and still are written all over my sets.
I like to try things out in public.
Not at home - and then bring it to the club 1:1. Naaah....
This is very much reflected in this mix. 17 years ago.
It has been glued together for better listening experience....
Thank you, Thomas Fath, for doing the party in 1995 and handing me over the recording...
Have fun!
Btw.: The Denon tape on which this mix was recorded to, is going for a lot (!) of money on Ebay...It's a bit scary...Really....
