My Name Is Legion is a three-piece electronic band from Copenhagen, Denmark, led by bedroom-producer, singer and songwriter Rasmus Poulsen. Centered around Rasmus’ lyrics and vocals, ’the Legion’ is an electronic molotov-cocktail of dubstep- and dance-inspired techno, edgy pop and dark Scandinavian melancholy. With a musical expression that is both danceable and emotional, aggressive and fragile, My Name Is Legion is on a mission to humanize and personalize electronic pop music.
Biography
My Name Is Legion originally started out as a solo project. With a bank loan, some borrowed equipment and no real experience in music producing, Rasmus’ went underground in an old air-raid shelter in late Autumn 2009 to record, mix and produce My Name Is Legion’s debut ’Soldiers EP’ on his own. This DIY approach (and some instrumental help from friends from music collective Copenhagen Collaboration) led him to self-release the 1st single ’A Dark Side to Beauty’ in March 2010. The single was shortly after picked up by Danish national radio station P3 and put in rotation. The single was followed by several concerts around Denmark, and in September, ’Soldiers EP’ was finally released. Two additional songs reached P3’s airwaves through the electronic radio show Unga Bunga, and the listener-based hit list ’Systemlisten’, while the EP received promising reviews from Danish music magazine Soundvenue.
After the release, Rasmus moved abroad spending 7 months studying electronic music at Goldsmiths University (James Blake, Katy B) in London. While an increasing number of electronic solo artists were popping up in the musical landscape, Rasmus’ was tired of always working alone. After his return to Copenhagen in Spring 2011, he decided to go against the trend and turn his solo project into a real band. Jonas Kristiansen (drums, electronics) and Morten Øhlenschlæger (synths, graphics & visuals), two former live-band members, were invited to join. Since then, My Name Is Legion has been working on making their debut album. First tunes are expected out in early 2012.
