McLuhan on Maui (Feb 22-Dec 31, 2011) is the first, longest and last of the McLuhan centenary conferences and celebrations. The aim of the conference is to achieve escape velocity from the black hole of boredom. Too long have those laboring beyond and beside McLuhan been yoked to the decorum of the dunces.

The structure and sprit of the conference is modeled on McLuhan’s own proposals to the Government of Canada (via Pierre E. Trudeau) and the Vatican (via the Pontifical Commission on Social Communications). It is a duet:
* Phase one is DISCARNATE. It runs from Feb 22-Dec 01, 2011.
* Phase two is EMBODIED/SOMATIC. It runs from Dec 02-Dec 31, 2011 on Makena Beach (and Environs), Maui, HAWAII.
