I Am Cuba

Recording of a college band.
The recording was done in roughly 4 hours worth of lesson time. That includes setting up of mics etc aswell.

Was recorded using Pro-tools HD2 system and mixed in Cubase 5.

Drums: 57 Kick close, D112 Kick Reso, 57 Snare Top, 58 Snare Bottom, E604s on toms, SE1a's on OH

Drum track was recorded live with acoustic guide, bass guide and vocals guide (all in isolation) in 1 take due to only being a small amount of time left in that lesson. All guides were then deleted and re-recorded properly.

Bass: Used a Bass Pod (bassist insisted on the worst tone ever).

Acoustic: Double mic'd with two DPA Omni's.

Electric Guitar: Originally recorded with SM57, AKG C4000, SE1a, SE4400, D112, and DI just to have a good choice of sources. When it came down to mixing I didn't like any combination of mics so I used the DI through Amplitube 2 bypassing the cab and loading my own impulse into Voxengo Pristene space.

Main Vocals: Recorded with SE4400's.

Backing vocals and group vocals all recorded with DPA Omnis.

The only preamps available were 2 Focusrite Octopre's.

Overall it's not the tightest recorded but considering the time scale it was done under i'm pretty happy with it, although this mix isn't my final and I will be tweaking it and I will be toning down the compression on the master.

Listening to it on here sounds a little weird aswell, but I think thats the streaming.
