FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE: (August 1, 2009)
“Organically refreshing female emcee, next best thing since Lauryn Hill”
J ROSS-PARRELLI Highly Anticipated Debut Album Lov’n Mak’N Music
Long Beach, CA (15 August 2009) - After 4 years of anticipation, J Ross Parrelli will be releasing her debut album “ Lov’n Mak’n Music”. With a night of Bohemian hip-hop (inspired by Tribe Called Quest, Jill Scott, The Roots and Jamaica’s Judy Mowatt), be prepared to witness a divine convergence of deep context, soulful emotions and street credentials. This party will be held at the Rhythm Lounge in downtown Long Beach and will feature J Ross Parrelli performing the entirety of her new album accompanied by a full stage of musicians and dancers, and supported throughout the night by DJs, El Boogie, Mr. Kees, and Gregory G. The show will also highlight the essence of female talent with Mighty Junebugg spinning the debut, live art by Blair Urban, professional violinist Lin Ling, and an all-female African and Belly dance group.
Ms Parrelli has been building a reputation as one California’s top live performers, Seen on stages alongside hip hop heavyweights like KRS-One, Akil the MC (Jurassic 5), Supernatural, and recently invited as the opener for Talib Kweli, Ms Parrelli can easily be considered a respected personality in the hip-hop/soul/reggae genres. Studio projects over the last 6 years have included tracks with top reggae artist Sizzla, hip hop legends The Pharcyde, and her single release “Love” with Speech of Arrested Development. Akil the MC is featured on the track “Legacy” on her new album.
Produced by Sean Lane (North Carolina) the “Lov’n Mak’n Music” LP is said to exemplify a variety of genres through its progressive production and writing. “There is no one style to the album”, says Sean Lane, when asked what category of music the album belongs in. “It’s diverse. It’s a fusion of jazz, hip-hop, soul, reggae, swing…really just a reflection of all the music we both love.”
Working alongside youth groups as a mentor and music teacher, J Ross-Parrelli has been able to pre-release her single “Hey there Sister”. “We are nothing if we do not have the support our youth …my writings and expressions are inspired by the youth so hopefully my music helps them find a dialogue they can relate to, something that inspires them.”
To witness the release itself, come to the Rhythm Lounge on August 15th at 9pm. If you’re fortunate enough to get in you’ll get to see the show and receive a free copy of the album.
