I am an electronic music producer spanning various genres with a vast array of diverse influences.
I've always had a profound interest in music and art and from a young age. Having always had at least a keyboard around a house to play around on, I began formal music training on the saxophone. I began producing my own music at the age of 14, producing and recording hip hop for several years. During this time, I released several albums, recorded many collaborations, and performed a few shows.
In 2003, I became interested in electronic music production and painstakingly taught myself (with the occasional guidance here and there) how to program synthesizers, beat machines, and various other tools of music production including software. I formed a gothic industrial/EBM project called Digital Sacrilege, which lasted from 2004-2007. Digital Sacrilege released an album, was played in a clubs around the Philadelphia and New Jersey area, and performed a few shows to positive reviews. In 2006, I joined the New York based synth punk band Din Glorious, which focused on a more avantgarde approach to punk. We generated lots of attention with our onstage (and offstage) antics. We played shows all over New York City, northern New Jersey, and embarked on a tour in California (playing San Francisco, Los Angeles, and Oakland). Along with this, we worked for Drop Dead Magazine and Drop Dead Festival. This took us to Prague, Czech Republic and Lisbon, Portugal to play the legendary festival and expand our network. Din Glorious dissolved in 2008, shortly after our performance in Lisbon.
Mr. Manic was first conceptualized in 2007 as a colorful, tongue in cheek electronic project influenced by new wave, electro and funk from the 70s, 80s, and early 90s. As the project evolved, psychedelic influences began to play a greater role as well as club music and hip hop. Mr. Manic (accompanied by a live band) has played shows in Philadelphia, New York City, Baltimore, Providence (Rhode Island), and at Drop Dead Festival in Lisbon, Portugal. We have become known for our colorful and messy onstage appearances, including UV reactive colors, black lights, strobes, and other tricks of vision and sound.
Over time, the Mr. Manic persona has expanded beyond just the band and now includes multi-genre production for raves, lounges, and clubs. With the help of several collaborators, I now organize dance parties that include artistic exhibitions, live electronic music (to set ourselves apart from the countless playlist DJs), and thoughtful themes. In 2011, you can expect from me: several albums of production spanning from house and electro to jungle and hip hop, as well as a new album from my Mr. Manic band, to be entitled Psychedelicious. And of course, more live performances!
