About

I am a dj and photographer and the driver behind the following websites:

blackcaesarevents.com
robsteerphotography.com

I have been djing, promoting and running parties since 1999 and mainly play an eclectic blend of funk, soul, jazz, hip hop, reggae and Latin soul and just about anything else I can use to create a vibe that suits the venues that book me to play. The one thing you can say about my style is that whatever I play it has to have a real funky and soulful sensibility.

I'm always endeavouring to take the crowd on a musical journey and create a funky vibe and I am known for getting the room dancing if that is what is called for or alternatively playing smooth background sounds to drink to and have been doing this successfully for the past 13 years.

Since starting my Dj Career in 1999, I have held down residencies and guest spots at many of Melbourne's best club nights like Fistful of Funk, Strange Behaviour, Car Boot Funk, Dropping Phat, Black Caesar, Soul Searching, Big City Funk, The Get Down, Sound Check, Booty Tang, Inner City Groove, Bass Camp, Fractured, Beats Working, Bimbo Deluxe and Good Times. I was also behind a very successful party called Weedhopper that ran for 2 years from 2000 -2002.

I have also played with artists such as Kylie Auldist (The Bamboos & Cooking on 3 Burners) & Randa Kamis (Randa and the Soul Kingdom) on numerous occasions.

I have djed at festivals such as Harvest Presents 'The Gathering' in 2011 which saw Portisehead headlining as well as Earthcore (2005 & 2007), The 2007 Spanish Festival, The 2007 Melbourne International Comedy Festival, The 2009 & 2010 Welcome Events in Federation Square and have been the go to Dj for The Melbourne City Council for events as diverse as Laneway 3000 (2008) and Winter Solstice (2009).

I have also played PBS FM's famous 'Soul A Go Go' parties in February 2009 & May 2010 and appeared on PBS FM's shows 'Switched On' and 'The Breakdown' as a guest on a number of occasions.

I have also toured Thailand 5 times and played support for the Stanton Warriors in Bangkok in 2005 and continue to play and be the main MC for the annual outdoor 'Jive Garden Festival' in Pai, Northern Thailand which saw 2500 party goers going crazy on January 16, 2011.

I was also the host of the online 'Black Heat' Radio Show on GTR online (from Bangkok) for 3 months in 2010.

You can catch me at my regular residencies at Section 8 (4th Saturday of the Month), The Penny Black (Public Holidays) and Murmur (1st, 3rd & 4th Saturdays of the Month) as well as guest sets at other venues.

If you like your music funky, then I'm your man!
