Keeping it exotic since 2010

Motions' unique sound was first introduced to wider audiences when they opened for Kid Koala in 2010. Since then the trio has filled houses and dance floors bringing the sunshine back to Rain City.

This musical counterpart to a summer cocktail is concocted by Joel Jasper on the turntables, Adrian St. Louis on an acoustic drum kit and Simon Marmorek on electronic drums.
The three friends met as undergraduate students at the University of British Columbia, while each of them worked on their very own, and very unique musical projects.

Adrian heads the ten-piece afrobeat band Miami Device, Simon is multi-instrumentalist in the psychedelic rock band Sunny Pompeii and Joel is a regular on Vancouver's house and dance-pop DJ scene. Combining their unique styles and love of timeless dance music, they collaborated to put a fresh, sparkling spin on some classic songs as well as whipping up some originals with that distinguished Motions sound.

The Recipe/Sound

A stimulating liquor distilled from vintage disco and funk tracks, infused with contemporary electronic beats and served with a side of live percussion on crushed ice. The trio packs its punch layering lush background sounds with danceable rhythms and soaring vocals.

Motions have been working hard to refine their special taste in an artful blending of freedom of expression, enhancing the medley with subtle spices to extract an elixir stimulating collective ecstasy.

Whether served straight or on the rocks, in a martini glass or a mason jar, put up your cocktail umbrellas, feel the beach on the dance floor and let the waves wash over you.
