About

MORNINGSIDE LIGHTS is a new weeklong arts event, culminating in an illuminated procession of large-scale public art in Morningside Park on Saturday, September 29, 2012.

From September 22 to 28, you’re invited to help imagine and build a fleet of illuminated, mobile sculptures in series of free guided workshops at Miller Theatre at Columbia University.

Use our Soundcloud page to upload sounds you hear in the neighborhood, and composer Nathan Davis will incorporate them into the piece he's working on for the procession on September 29! Just click on the "Dropbox" tab to get started, or listen to "Favorites" to hear what others have added.

JOIN THE SOUNDSCAPE: Record what you hear in the neighborhood, in the park, in the subway, on the street, and upload files to Soundcloud and your samples will become part of the piece Nathan Davis is writing to be performed during the procession on September 29, and broadcast live on WKCR. Alternatively, pick and download others' samples from the "Favorites" tab and remix them to create your own unique contribution. In order to be considered for inclusion, samples must be received by September 22 and remixes must be uploaded by September 25.
