By the time Paul Wolinski of 65daysofstatic finished his debut ‘Polinski’ solo album, ‘Labyrinths’, the closing song, AWaltzOfLight had been edited, rearranged and sonically scuffed up so much to fit in better with the rest of the album tracks, it had a wholly different tone to the original.
This original version remained, in its own right, a truly elegant cinematic gem that cried out for a special place where it could be heard.
What better way to allow it to do so than by using it to help make the lives of those less fortunate a bit easier by helping to provide them with things that many of us are lucky enough to take for granted, like food and clean water? So all proceeds from the sales of this digital single will be donated to Oxfam.
In Paul’s words:
“This is the original version of AWaltzOflight. The album version was a bit noisier, a bit more end-of-the-world in tone. It just seemed more fitting that way. This version is a little bit more hopeful. A bit more maybe-the-world-won't-end-just-yet. I wanted to release it somehow, because I like it just as much as the album version, maybe even more so. Last year Oxfam used a bit of a 65daysofstatic track for one of their adverts, which was really flattering. It was nice to see our music being used for something so tangibly useful. Releasing this version of AWOL and giving any profits straight to Oxfam seemed to be a logical next step.”
