Need a gift for a gifted musician?
The alias of poet and avant-garde musician Alaric López, cerebral cosmonaut and wanderer above a sea of butterflies.
Monarcadia released his debut album "Don't, Don't" on September 17, 2013. "Don't, Don't" is a meditation on love, the self, and the mental conflicts that arise from where those two subjects intersect. How does falling in love detract from obligations we have to ourselves as individuals? Is the individual-as-authority (as the English Romantic poets presented it) totally incompatible with lowercase-R romantic love? How much is falling in love pure narcissism? I explore these questions and more. This album is as much a short collection of poems as it is music, and sets sail on my goal of merging the literary and musical worlds. Stylistically the music on this album consists of dreamy, melodic synth and guitar-based electro-pop with hip-hop/disco influenced beats, lots of sampling and looping, huge vocal harmonies, and a wide use of my vocal range to convey different "voices" in the poems. All of the lyrics are accessible at https://monarcadia.bandcamp.com/album/dont-dont
Monarcadia is totally DIY: I play all of the instruments as well as write, record, and produce all of the songs.
