Mom+Pop is thrilled to announce the signing of anthemic Australian quartet The Jezabels. The band’s debut full-length, Prisoner, will be released digitally November 8th with a physical release to follow in early 2012. Mom+Pop’s music services team, Boombox, is set to handle all marketing for the release. Recorded at SYNDEY’s Attic Studios with producer Lachlan Mitchell and mixed by Peter Katis, the album is a collection of soaring, sunkissed rock and goth-tinged pop. Since its Australian release in mid-September, The Jezabels have all but demolished Oz. In a matter of weeks, the band has sold out every show it’s played Down Under, debuted at #2 on the Aussie charts (held off only by worldwide phenomenon Adele), and won an ARIA. All in a day’s work.
Originally founded by Byron-bred singer Hayley Mary and keyboardist Heather Shannon, the band truly found its legs with the 2006 addition of guitarist Sam Lockwood and drummer Nik Kapoler. Like the three EPs that came before it (2009’s The Man Is Dead and She’s So Hard and 2010’s Dark Storm), Prisoner calls to mind the theatrics of Sioux-indebted post-punk and Kate Bush melodrama, never losing site of the outsized, stadium-ready streak that runs through its fifteen tracks.
The band will embark on a run of dates in support of the album’s release on November 8th. The tour kicks off at The Echo in Los Angeles, and hits several cities on either side of North America into late November. All dates are with Hey Rosetta with the exception of the band’s headlining Mercury Lounge gig in New York City on November 21st.
