About

James Jacoby plays heavy metal—literally. After playing the tuba for over 25 years, he firmly believes there is not enough tuba in pop, rock, and jazz. Jacoby's goal to change that has earned him the nickname "ModernTuba," and he has recorded with a diverse group of contemporary artists, including chamber pop songwriter Melissa Axel, world music outfit Kailin Yong Peace Project, Dixieland jazz ensemble The Claim Jumpers, and Irish folk-rock hero Andy White. He has twice been awarded scholarships to study songwriting in the UK with the WOMAD Foundation (founded by Peter Gabriel) and has recorded as far away as Iceland. Jacoby has performed all over the U.S. but now calls Los Angeles home when he isn't traveling.
