    MAKING PROGRESS
    Blocked out the sun
    Pulled his shadow down
    Hauled a cortege
    And drawled into town

    Hounds howled
    At his bloodsucking horde
    The daybreak bell didn't ring
    No more
Birds fell down from the sky
    Sky that wept
    Rivers
    Still ran dry
    When he spoke
    Fire and smoke
    Burned through the holes
    That had formed beneath
    His worthless soul.

    Laid his hand
On land that lay down dead
    Like vampires by day...
    And night was red
With the blood of thousands of his victims.

    The whole wide world
    Fell asleep in his wake
    All he would keep
Was all that he could take -
    No more
    No lessons did he bring
    Sirens songs he would sing
They would whisper in the wind
    Like flies.

    Laid his hand
On land that lay down dead
    Like vampires by day...
    And night was red
With the blood of thousands of his victims.

    Bombs, mines
    And minds blew.
    Making progress,
    He pushed on through.
