About
My latest project is a very fun avant-pop duo called ::OCTOBUSE:: OCTOBUSE with myself and Mark Corrin (a.k.a. Shirokuma) of Manchester, England. We released our first EP on the first of the year with Valentine Records. Very exciting! You can listen and download said EP here: http://valentinerecords.bandcamp.com/album/octobuse-whip-it and also find us here: facebook.com/octobuse and here: www.octobuse.com. MUCH more music to be released this year! Please follow us and spread the OCTO-love!!
Bio: I've been writing, playing, and recording for nearly 20 years. Have worked professionally with sound and/or music for 10 years, off and on, now completely focused on making a living at it. Have also won awards for my theatrical sound design work. I love all kinds of sound and music, and write in various styles, with a common thread being perhaps playfulness with a touch (or hearty scoops) of 'danger'... be it in my lyrical subject matter, harmonic choices, textures... where and however it manifests. Sometimes my music is light and lovely, sometimes traditional, but often it lands slightly to the darkside. Frequently progressive/modern, 'avant-garde', thick and rich, raw, sometimes comedic. Whether vocal or instrumental, it often tells a story. I use whatever works to create my music. From traditional chamber ensemble music (i.e. oboe, cello, violin, piano) to sampled kitchen utensil percussion-driven jazz to hip-hop horror-pop built on sound effects, synths, and classical instrumentation.
I had no formal training in music or sound engineering when I began, teaching myself as I went and then eventually I attended school for music, sound, film, and theater, 4.5 years total in college. Various awards + 2 fellowships in theatrical sound design. Then in June 2012 I received a Professional Music certificate from Portland CC.
I can create music for anything that needs it, though I'm especially interested in working with producers, directors, choreographers, and other composers who are interested in creating new works in collaboration.
